AEDs are similar to the ones we observe on medical shows and in emergency rooms at hospitals. The device mainly functions to correct fibrillation or any irregular heart rate that is negatively impacting blood flow; however, standard defibrillators can be operated by any citizen, even the ones with little or no medical training.
If a person experiences cardiac arrest or a heart attack, the defibrillator should be placed on the chest to provide an electric shock, which is channel via the electrodes or paddles. The main aim of the shock is to jolt the patient's elevated and chaotic heart rhythm back into its normal range, thus returning blow flow to the normal levels. The AED Tracking and Data Management is used to determine whether or not a shock is warranted; this includes the level of energy that is required to revive the patient. The user is not allowed to override the determination of the AED; this is one way to ensure that an inexperienced individual does not have a hard time using the machine on a patient with a cardiac arrest.
Thanks to the reduced risk of abuse, AED Data Management has become a fixture in various public forums, for instance, airports, sports arenas, and casinos. There are many cases where individuals, especially athletes or elderly individuals, are struck by sudden cardiac arrest only to be rescued by the presence of an automated external defibrillator.
One of the AED available to the public is the Zoll AED Plus. The machine has numerous features that are designed to make the use of the defibrillators as simple as possible for an individual with no medical background. It includes an interactive graphical user interface and voice prompts that help the user on a step by step guide through the process. This helps one eliminate the confusion of placing the electrodes on the patient's body. Moreover, the Zoll AED Plus runs on conventional batteries, which promise both convenience and financial savings.
Generally, the American Heart Association actively promotes the placement of Automated External Defibrillators or AEDs in any public places where immediate cardiac care may be required. Other prime targets include gated communities, office complexes, and shopping malls.
As for individuals interested in purchasing an AED for use in their community or organization, the FDA demands physician's prescriptions for the device. Moreover, your local EMS system can help you determine the local state protocols for owning and operating an AED.
You can also come across AED First Aid Certification training and education courses via the American Heart Association. One such course is the new Heart saver AED course, which combines CPR and AED training.
The emergence of AEDs is a potentially life-saving measure for individuals with cardiac arrest. The machine is available to the general public with a slight risk of misuse or abuse. AEDs continue to appear in more public domains as the hope of sudden cardiac arrest at the same time, giving people a chance to be heroes.
