A proxy server in the computer network is a server system for the application which acts like the intermediary from the requests of the clients which seek the resources for more servers. The client can connect to the proxy server; it may request service like a connection, file or web page from other resources which are available in different server for the proxy server which evaluates request like a method of controlling and simplifying the complexity. The proxies may be invented in order to add the structure or encapsulation on the distributed system.
The proxy server may be found on the computer of the user or at different points within the destination and computer servers found over internet. The proxy server may pass the responses and requests which was unmodified and which is usually know as gateway or even as a tunneling prox. The forward proxy is based on the internet and it is facing proxy which is used in retrieving wide range of the source in many cases. The reverse proxy is internet facing proxy and it can be used as a front–end in order to control and to protect the access of the server at a private network. The reverse proxy may perform the tasks on the caching, decryption, authentication and load balancing.
An open proxy forwards the proxy sites using a proxy server which is accessible with the internet. There are many anonymous proxies over the internet and the user may use them if he wants to hide the IP address when browsing the internet or web service. The proxies offer different level of anonymity with the number of some tricks on how the client may reveal himself even if he is using the web proxy.
The reverse proxy or also known as surrogate proxy is the proxy server that appears on the client like ordinary server. The requests may be forwarded on one or two more proxy servers which may handle the requests. The answer from the proxy server is given back as if it was coming from the original server and it does not give the clients the knowledge of the original server. The proxy list is found on the neighborhood of different web servers. The traffic that comes from the internet can have one destination for the neighborhood server and it can go within the proxy server. The use of the reverse proxy had originated from the forward proxy because the forward proxy may sit close to the web server and it serves restricted set of the website.

The SSL acceleration or encryption is when a secure site is created; the SSL is done often by the web proxy on its own. However, the reverse proxy has been equipped by the SSL acceleration hardware. A host may also offer a single SSL proxy and it provides a SSL server certificate for every host with the downside of all the hosts on the SSL proxy which may share the common IP address or DNS for the SSL connection. The load balancing may distribute a load to many web proxy sites and every server may be serving on the own application.
