DUTIES OF A HONORARY CONSUL AS PER THE APPOINTMENT PROCESS
• Preliminary enquires
A diplomat needs to do preliminary enquiries concerning his area of specialization as stated in the honorary appointment letter. He or she has to enquire of the needed requirements learn more of the native country among other reasons. Before an honorary consul confirms the acceptance of the honorary appointment, he she should have researched all about what the state expects of him or her to avoid major complications or surprises in the future.

DUTIES OF A CONSULAR AFTER CONFIRMING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE HONORARY CONSUL APPOINTMENT
After a diplomat get a diplomatic appointment and duly confirms his acceptance of it, honorary consuls are authorized to carry out some of these duties:
• Issue passports or other travel documents to the citizens of their native land as well citizens of the host state or country who wish to visit or reside in their native land.
• Encourage the annual observations or celebrations of independence and other cultural milestones for their native land and give support to others engaged in staging of festivals and celebrations of cultural awareness that reflects their native land’s past, present and future.
• Meet regularly with their local government officials and leaders to explain their native state’s interests and to assist them in obtaining information on policy and protocol.
• Gathers information on the receiving country’s current affairs in the above areas and prepares a report for his or her foreign minister as well as responding to inquires of relevant persons.
• Provides assistance and support to the native citizen’s, legal entities and organizations.
• Provides assistance, support to maritime ships under his or her native states or countries flag as well as to the native lands registered aircraft, and crew.
Remember
A honorary consul does not hold a diplomatic passport. His authorization on acting on behalf of the state is also limited.



CONCLUSION
As we have seen, a honorary consul has too many duties apart from just getting involved in making negotiations on behalf of his or her native land.
