A denture, or a complete denture, is a custom-made oral appliance. Dentures are designed to replace natural teeth and provide support for your cheeks and lips to give you a healthier appearance as well as a functional and confident smile.

• Conventional Dentures — conventional dentures are designed and created after all the teeth have been extracted and the gum tissues have healed.
• Immediate Dentures — immediate dentures are created and inserted immediately following tooth extraction, and the tissues heal under the denture.
• Complete Dentures — these dentures replace an entire arch of teeth.
• Partial dentures — these dentures replace some teeth when you still have natural teeth remaining. They are usually held in place with thin frames or clasps to ensure stability.

What If I’m Missing All of My Lower Teeth?
Ball Attachment Denture
One option for implant-retained dentures is a ball attachment denture. This involves having two implants placed in your lower jaw, with a denture that snaps onto those implants to provide a stable foundation. This attachment can give you greater stability while chewing, but there will be movement of your lower denture and sore spots will develop if any food debris becomes trapped under the denture.
Bar Attachment Denture
Bar attachment dentures are the other option for implant-retained dentures. With this option, four to six implants are placed into your lower jaw. After you have healed from the implant placement procedure, the implants are connected with a custom-made support bar onto which the denture snaps firmly into place. This type of implant-retained denture is also known as an overdenture. Overdentures are very stable and allow very little movement of the appliance.
Screw-Retained Denture
The third option for replacing your missing teeth involves placing five or more implants in your jaw and attaching a permanent denture to them. This denture is held in place with screws or clasps and does not touch the gum tissue, allowing you to clean under it without removing it. This denture can only be removed at maintenance visits and is designed as a more permanent option.

What If I’m Missing All of My Upper Teeth?
Implant-retained denture options are similar for the upper dental arch. However, because the bone of your upper jaw is not as hard as the lower jaw, more implants may be needed to support the denture. Depending on the number of implants, your denture may not need to cover the roof of your mouth, thus allowing you to fully taste your food. This implant-retained denture gives you a more natural feel, and is still removable to make cleaning your appliance easier.
