It’s common for the driver to meet with the poor radio reception. We would like to give you some suggestion to improve it, such as checking your antenna connections, making sure your antenna mast is good and it’s extended.

It’s very normal to meet such annoying situation, the radio drops signal and get some interference when you listen radio when you are driving. Anything from tall buildings to solar flares can adversely affect your listening experience. We can’t control it but we can find solution to improve the radio reception on our car DVD players . You can check out these four ways to improve your car radio reception.

1. Check your antenna connections
One of the most common causes of poor car radio reception is a poor antenna connection. If the antenna cable is poorly seated in your head unit, or any of the connections are loose, worn, or corroded, you’ll often find it difficult to tune into your favorite station.

The first thing to check is the connection between the antenna cable and the back of your head unit. If the connection is solid, you shouldn’t notice anything. If the connection is loose, you’ll probably notice the tuner drop and then reacquire the signal. If that happens, you should tighten the antenna and check the grounds.

2. Make sure your antenna mast is good and it’s extended
If your car has a manual or electric retractable antenna mast, you need to check whether the mast is extended. This may sound like extremely basic stuff, but it’s very importand for manual antennas to be retracted and then left that way. Anyone can walk by and shove your antenna down. We may pay no much attention to it. But when you suffer poor radio reception, you need to check it carefully.

3. Get a new antenna
You may find your antenna is broken when inspecting your antenna connections, In that case, you need to replace the antenna. There are also a handful of other cases that call for a new antenna. For instance, some cars come with “grid style” antennas mounted to the rear window glass instead of old fashioned whip or mast antennas. These flat antennas have some aesthetic benefits, and they can’t be broken off by a car wash or a vandal, but they often suffer from poor reception in big cities or hilly areas. In some cases, an old fashioned whip antenna will provide better reception.

4. Add an antenna pre-amplifier
In simplest terms, an antenna pre-amplifier takes the current variations in the antenna and amplifies them prior to the tuner. The effect of this pre-amplification process can produce results ranging from good to bad. On the good side, a high-quality pre-amplified antenna can extend the usable range of an FM tuner. Weak signals become stronger and thus are of a higher quality. On the bad side, a pre-amplifier amplifies everything. This includes broadcast stations, natural noise, man-made noise, everything. In addition, a pre-amplified antenna can have a detrimental effect on reception by reducing the tuners selectivity or ability to single out a specific station.

If you check all the above and the radio reception and you can’t live with it. Then you need to buy a new head unit because the car DVD players are defective. But please note that the nearby hills and tall building will definitely influence the radio reception.
