The Little Ski Racer From Rochdale Makes It Big On The Mountains

As trainers for ski-racing often point out, it is best to start ‘learning’ the sport when a child is about 6-7 years old. However, for Daisi Daniels, the art seemed to come naturally when she was barely 4 years old!

What began as a casual family fun while holidaying in Austria, the young girl, who now ages 13, has become the only British ski victor in her age-group. Apart from her mighty win, Daniels has also been voted as one of the ‘most promising’ rising stars by the veterans in the sport.

A few years before, the 8 years old Daisi congratulated herself of winning the British Indoor Skiing Championship and the European Championship, as well. She is being trained by the Chilliactore Manchester, who also doubles up as one of her sponsors.

The slightly-built ski racer proves that one needs not to attain a huge stature to make it big and impactful in the sports world. In fact, the pint-sized prodigy was so tiny in appearance that evens a 3 feet tall trophy, which she won some years back, seemed not to commensurate with her height. However, on seeing her talent, experts comment that she might consider competing in the winter Olympics in the coming years. Even Daisi seems to have given it a serious thought. She mentions that her coach would allow her to go for the Olympics when she will be ready for it. Daisy hopes not to return empty-handed when she goes there.

The little girl from Rochdale started skiing way back in March, 2007 when she went to Snow Sports Alpbach Activ Austria, with her family. On 14th August, in 2009, she participated in the Chill Factore Summer Race League Under 8's where she ended up securing a 2nd position. Since then, she has been continuously competing in one tournament to other, only to return home with a handful of accolades and trophies. This year has been no exception to the rule. In April, she participated in the British Childrens Championships - Tignes, France under 14scSlalom and secured the first position. She also competed in the British Children’s Championships - Tignes, France under 14s Giant Slalom on 31st March, and came first. March seemed to be a lucky month for Daisi this year, because she actually had three back-to-back win on 28th, 30th and 31st March. On 30th March 2016, she went for British Childrens Championships - Tignes, France under 14 & under 16s where she came Super G 1st. On 28th March, she joined the British Children’s Championships - Tignes, France Under 14sand enjoyed SG/GS Kombi 1st.

The Rochdale ski racer seemed to be a favourite among champions, as well. Chemmy Alcott, who was crowned the overall senior British national champion five times, and a 4-time Olympian, mentioned that in the prestigious Delancey British Alpine Ski Championships, she would put her bet on Daisi. In fact, Alcott believes that this would be just a beginning of journey to the Beech House School student. Being a coach herself, Alcott sees a huge potentiality in Daisi, and has seen that she hardly knows someone as competitive as her, particularly when the girl’s age is concerned. Daisi is, is points out, a unique combination of talent and depth, and is impressive day in and day out! She goes a step further and says that the young girl is fit for the world championships, as well.

Nevertheless, skiing on professional basis does get expensive at times. It especially comes costly when it comes to competing in the prestigious tournaments. Currently, the Beech House School has been sponsoring her education since 2011; Fort Vale Engineering Ltd has been sponsoring her since 2014, Indoor Snow Centre is her Sponsor since 2012. She also has separate sponsors for her sports gear and other amenities. However, managing fund for participating still remains an issue, hence any amount of help remain a big help for the Daniels.
