Being formed in the year of 2000, when Brent Knopf decided to join the two artists, this Portland, Oregon indie band’s name is said to have no specific meaning whatsoever, yet many people assume that it comes from the PieroUmiliani song "MahNàMahNà”. Furthermore, it is also said that this band’s name is composed of “Men” and “Phenomena”, a Greek term that can refer to “what remains”. The very first concert of Menomenawas in July 2001, at The Meow Meow, a famous venue in Portland.

What is more, this incredible band has signed a contract with German record label City Slang in order to release their album called “Friend and Foe” across Europe in the year of 2007. Menomena had managed to tour Europe not once, but twice that year, the entire experience being captured by Seim in a blog for Portland-based website “Local Cut”. Two years later, the bandfocused extensively on working in and out of the studio. Pictures from these events were uploaded on Menomena’s Myspace account, although no comments were made about the album's evolution.
