North Central Michigan University (NCMU) is proud to announce that student Ashley Tyler has been awarded the prestigious Global Innovation Award for her groundbreaking project, HydroPower Up. This innovative initiative features a small-scale hydroelectric generator designed to harness river currents, providing clean energy solutions for rural households.
Ashley, a dedicated environmental science major, developed HydroPower Up as part of her senior thesis project. Her vision is to create sustainable energy sources that can be easily implemented in remote areas, reducing dependency on fossil fuels and promoting eco-friendly living. The device’s innovative design allows it to be easily installed in rivers, generating electricity with minimal environmental impact. This achievement not only underscores Ashley’s commitment to sustainability but also highlights NCMU’s dedication to fostering innovative solutions to global challenges.
The Global Innovation Award recognizes outstanding contributions to sustainable development and is awarded to individuals whose projects have the potential to create significant social and environmental impact. Ashley’s project stood out among a competitive field of global nominees, demonstrating both feasibility and scalability. “Winning this award is an incredible honor, and I am excited to take HydroPower Up to the next level,” Ashley stated. “I believe that sustainable energy should be accessible to everyone, especially those in underserved communities.”
