Prayer: Deflect/Protect from Melee (and Torment/Anguish/Turmoil). Soulsplit not recommended unless very experienced with dodging the special attacks or can prayer switch when needed, and preferably not tanking (DPSing from away).
Combat style: Magic (water spells). Ranged is recommended over Melee.

Helwyr does a massive claw attack.

To avoid the high melee damage because of the massive claw attack, you should follow these ways:
Run through/under him or Surge.
Devotion with Deflect/Protect from Melee.
Resonance with shield. Make sure you are in a clear zone and not near any green gas, there are no minion wolves around and you've cleared any bleeds on you.
Debilitate to take decreased damage.

Helwyr grows mushrooms out of the ground which start puffing out green gas.

To avoid the green gas, you should go to zones clear of the green mushroom gas by using Surge/Escape. As long as you're in the gas, you will be prevented from running, taking typeless bleeds and stunned for a few seconds if you stay too long.

Helwyr charges around in a circle, doing a frenzy attack and bleeding everyone around him.
Freedom to clear the bleeds.
Devotion with Deflect/Protect from Melee.
Simply stepping to the side of Helwyr when he uses his BLEED! Attack will negate it.

Helwyr looks up and emits sound waves from his mouth, spawning wolves around him.
To avoid this, you should kill the minions off, as they have only 3000 LP each and can deal some melee damage. Ideally with AoE's as you focus on DPSing Helwyr, they are weak to water spells, hence why it should be your preferred choice for Magic.
