Able Hands Rehabilitation Introduces the Able Hands Orthotic Scanner App for 3D Scanning, CAD, and 3D Printing

The rehabilitation facility offering hand therapy and treatments launches a 3D scanning app for hand orthotic facilities.

Certain hand conditions require the support of an orthosis, more commonly known as a splint or brace, to support the joints and enhance the hand’s mobility. The Able Hands Orthotic Scanner is an app designed for the iPhone 10+ models, allowing doctors and surgeons to attain customized orthoses for their patients in a perfect fit.

An orthosis is a medical brace that provides support to a body part, most commonly a hand or leg, after undergoing a medical condition such as fractures, injuries, tendonitis, trauma, etc. Orthoses are increasingly being used as replacements for casts since they are more comfortable, hygienic, and not time-bound.
Once the app captures a clear picture of the body part, the Computer Aided Design (CAD) system helps generate a customized splint or brace for the affected body part, along with accurate measurements to ensure it’s a perfect fit. A 3D printer will print the brace in physical form.

A representative at Able Hands Rehabilitation said, “While this app is designed to help doctors and surgeons generate perfect-fitting braces for their patients, our main motivation was the welfare of the patients. We see the trauma and pain that people suffering from such conditions go through every day, and we try our best to help them in any way we can. This app will provide them with the most comfortable and effective braces to help them recover from their condition quickly and completely.”

Once printed, the brace will require cleaning, D-Ring velcro straps to secure it to the affected area, and socks and extra padding, depending on the patient's comfort level.

The Able Hands Orthotic Scanner is well equipped to create braces for all kinds of injuries and conditions ranging from the initial stages of severity to the most extreme stages.

In addition to this, Able Hands Rehabilitation treats various other hand conditions and provides a pleasant and therapeutic environment for the patients to help speed up the healing process.
