India opener Rohit Sharma said that he had recovered from his calf-injury and also he was ready to play before the global pandemic novel coronavirus forced everyone to go into a lockdown state. However, he said that he has to clear a fitness test in NCA before he plays for India. Notably, he sustained the injury during India’s series against New Zealand.

“Before the lockdown happened, I was almost ready to play. That whole week was going to be my fitness test but that’s when the lockdown happened and I had to push back everything now,” Rohit Sharma told LaLiga’s Facebook page on Saturday. “Once everything opens up, I have to first go to the center (NCA) and give my fitness test and once I pass the fitness test I will be allowed to go and resume my duties with the team.”

On the other hand, former India fast bowler Atul Wassan shared his views over India’s captaincy. He thinks split captaincy could help India to reduce the pressure on a player. Currently, Virat Kohli leads India across formats, alongside leading his IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore. In his absence, Rohit Sharma leads India in limited-overs and considered as successful too. Apart from this, he is the captain of Mumbai Indians in Indian Premier League and led the side successfully to four titles.

However, Wassan feels that Rohit Sharma should lead India in T20Is as he is an instinctive leader and his record is good too. He also shared that Kohli should continue to lead India in ODIs and Tests.

In a recent interview with Sportkeeds, Wassan said, “Yes, I think India should think about split captaincy because it is too much load. Virat loves it, I think he wants to captain all three formats. But Rohit Sharma has shown us that he’s. His record is good, he leads from the front. With Mumbai Indians, he did the same.”
