TORONTO, The next generation of sports journalists is being trained at Centennial College — and entering the field faster than those who attend traditional journalism programs.
The Sports Journalism offering allows those who previously completed a college diploma or university degree in any discipline or those who have partial post secondary (minimum two years) experience combined with relevant experience in the field of journalism to graduate in just three semesters.
Students learn by doing. As such, a faculty of experienced sports journalism professionals and educators teaches students everything from sports editing, sports writing, and newspaper and online layout to TV and radio sports show production, in-studio and in-the-field hosting and much more. Students get to apply their skills to the real world prior to graduation through a field placement during which they work as reporters in their chosen area (TV, newspaper, online).
To launch a Sports Journalism career upon graduation, this program also helps students to develop a portfolio of published sports reporting, photos, videos, podcasts, columns, blogs and Tweets. The program’s graduates have been be hired by highly regarded companies such as: Sportsnet, TSN, CBC Sports, 680 News, ESPN New York and more.
