These excursions are supported and organized by the Australian government. The Royal Australian Navy on the behalf of the Government of Australia ensures that these excursions on the seas are designed to instill fearlessness and a spirit of adventure among the youth of Australia.

The young men and women who participate in these excursions get to play a lot of roles right from helping the chef in preparing meals for those on board the ship and helping the engineer in carrying out various technical checks and repairs. Participating young men and women even get to take command of the Young endeavor ship and steer the ship through the route to the final destination. The exceptional sailors are awarded the Duke of Edinburgh award on completion of their sailing through the excursion route.

The eligibility criteria for participating in these sailing excursions are that the individual has to be less than 120 kilos, should be able to swim more than 50 m, and be physically fit and mentally sound. The Royal Australian Navy personnel are given the responsibility of guiding and protecting all those on board the Young endeavor ships. The sailing excursions have been proven to benefit society, especially the youth of Australia in multiple ways. Sailing excursions guided by the Royal Australian Navy instill a sense of fearlessness and a spirit of adventure among the participating young men and women.

About Young endeavor: Young endeavor is a program and the name of the ship that first departed from British shores in the year 1987. The ship had 12 British sailors and 12 Australian sailors on board and it reached Australian shores the very same year. The Australian government decided to start a program of sailing excursions for the youth of the nation so that young men and women would have the spirit of adventure and the adrenaline rush in them when they are on excursions in the oceans. Between February and March and between August and September, applications are invited every year for the youth sailing camp in Australia.
