We do a little product development every day. This morning, I was inspired by an article on the Interwebs about "states rights". Interesting read, but not the point. The article had a cool sidebar about the history of states that had to fight for their right to exist like California successfully did before it became a State in 1850. We wanted to build a case (from beautiful Mahogany of course) that would honor California and the people that live there. The flag is laser engraved from a piece of real Mahogany - handcrafted in the USA from locally sourced wood.
The Historic Bear Flag originally raised at Sonoma, CA on June 14, 1846, by a group of American settlers in revolt against Mexican rule. The flag was designed by William Todd on a piece of new unbleached cotton. The star imitated the lone star of Texas. ... The word, "California Republic" was placed beneath the star and bear.
Bear Flag Museum has a great history of the flag and of early California. Did you know there was a "Bear Flag Revolt" that would have created a full country independent of the United States? Me neither. But it was not to be. The bear flag revolt only lasted 31 days during the summer of 1846. And here is a collection of some of the coolest and most original bear flag art I have seen anywhere.
Not everyone believes this flag represents the values of modern day California. But that's OK. We think it's beautiful, and will look even better on the back of your phone.
