There are many women in our country who are changing their creative skill or hobby to handmade home-based business.

There are many women in our country who are changing their creative skill or hobby to handmade home-based business. Many women who have a passion to do something and earn something find it highly satisfying when their products are appreciated, sold and their businesses do well. But many times, it also happens that their handmade goods are not selling. You have a pile of handmade goods lying at the corner of your house and you are not able to sell them. This becomes highly depressing for a woman entrepreneur. So, what do you do under these circumstances?
The following article provides you some essential tips to follow when your handmade goods are not selling.
First of All, Try to Analyze Few Things
• Why are your products not selling? Is it due to price or is it due to quality?
• Is it the style or the material?
• Is there a new competition in the local market?
• Are you not following a proper method to market your products?
• Or are the pics and description of the products that need to be blamed? and so on
There is nothing wrong in bringing change in your business. Remember, when you had started, you had just one product in your mind and slowly you started making different variations of your product. Maybe, now it calls for an entirely new product. There will always be obstacles in your path but you should know to change your strategy when it is required. So you have to make a decision now:
Either you keep on doing what you are doing and keep on sulking
Or
You are willing to change the current plan and be open to a new one
The latter one is a better option: Be open to change
Get Feedback from Others
Be open to criticism and take feedback from others. Ask your known circles about your products and ask them to give honest opinion. If you feel that your known circles are just trying to please you, then leave them out of it. Gather feedback from your previous customers too. This becomes easy for you to know the drawbacks of your products and you can try to improve on them. Feedback should be related to not only the products but also on other issues like as delivery, quality of customer services and so on. If required, make a proper feedback form with specific questions like as follows:
• Why are you no longer buying my product?
• Is the price too high?
• Are you facing any problem with the quality?
• Is the delivery not on time?
• Is the photograph on the website not giving the right message?
• Suggestions for improvement
Get a Mentor
At times, you definitely need a big support to provide you the right guidance and mentoring to make your business a great success. Hire a professional mentor to understand the state of your business, to help set rolling your business, how to spend the money and invest for your home based business etc etc. If you want to transform your handmade business into a main source of income, do not hesitate to spend some money on a coach or mentor to help you out when your products are not selling.
Ask for Favors
Once in a while, there is nothing wrong in getting favors from others. Ask favors from such circles. Maybe, you know of someone who has his own craftshop (you can take for rent a small space in his shop to sell your products) or someone who is already a known entrepreneur of your area (maybe you can display your handmade products in his or her next craft show). Don’t expect that they will say YES but there is nothing wrong in trying. Maybe, one out of the 5 or 6 people that you know will definitely help you out. Not only in terms of displaying your products, you can also take advice from them.
Research the market and the products
Get to know your competitors. What are they selling? How are your products different/ same as theirs? Research, research and more research. You don’t have to copy what others are doing but atleast you will get some idea on what others are selling and how you can make your products different from the others. Get ideas on where you can improve. Be aware of your competition as there are too many craft, creative and handmade businesses operating in recent time.
Thumb rule
Give attention to the following when you research the market and other products:
Products
• Product selection
• Product theme
• Product pricing
• Product photography
Marketing
• Brand logo
• Social media platforms
• Interaction and commenting
• Updates and storylines
Selling
• Where are they selling?
• Online or offline
• Do they have a website?
• Do they sell at craft shops or craft fair and shows?
• Do they offer “free” shipping or discounts?
