Christmas event at the Windamere Colonial Hotel in the heart of Darjeeling on the iconic Observatory Hill is a signature experience. "Christmas Week at Windamere", which runs from 18th December to 1st January every year, has been celebrated at the hotel, in the same way, without interruption, since 1939. Every year, during Christmas, eminent entertainers and celebrities from London’s West End Theatre District grace this Colonial property with their presence and talent. Famous entertainers from Australia, New Zealand, Canada, America and France have also charmed Windamere’s esteemed guests with their boisterous comedy and captivating music.
The Windamere Colonial Hotel and its esteemed guests share a very special relationship with The Totties. The Totties comprising of famous entertainers, Carolyn Allen and Paul Smith from London’s West End Stage are going to enthral Colonial Windamere’s audiences for the fourth time with their show, “The Art of the Ridiculous” from December 20th, 2019 to January 1st, 2020. The best part is that they are back by public demand, so just imagine how incredible they are! In a few words, we have tried to do justice to their dynamic portfolio.
Carolyn Allen
Among her television appearances, she most memorably played “Vonny”, the sexy stripper and snake charmer in Only Fools and Horses, a British television sitcom and the role of “Carol”, the best friend in The Upper Hand, another famous British sitcom in the comedy genre. Her other television appearances include roles in Slinger’s Day and Just His Luck.
Carolyn’s West End credits include:
• Ray Cooney’s famous farces
• As Jenny Bristow in the theatrical rendition of the book by Ray Cooney, Two Into One
• As Ida in See How They Run, a play by Philip King
• Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, a musical comedy
• Theatrical rendition of Les Miserables by author Victor Hugo
• As Edith in Jo Papp’s Pirates of Penzance at the Drury Lane Theatre
She has also appeared as “Carole” in the film Personal Services. For those of you who are having a hard time to recollect, Carolyn Allen was the girl with the birthday present for Cynthia Payne.
You might have also seen Carolyn Allen in New Tricks for the BBC, playing “Carole”, a member of Dennis Waterman’s ex-wives club. She has also been playing “Hebe” in Opera Della Luna’s HMS Pinafore and appears in plays like Forces Sweethearts and Pack up Your Troubles in theatres around the United Kingdom.
Paul Smith
Paul Smith began his career playing for cabaret all over Europe and America. He has worked as the musical director in the West End for numerous plays which include:
• Godspell
• Stop the World I Want to Get Off
• Oklahoma
• Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead at the National Theatre
• Paint Your Wagon
• The Tempest and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes in Regents Park
• Howard Goodall's musical, Days of Hope
As a Music Director Paul has enjoyed three years with Danny La Rue on stage and television and also with Ronnie Corbett and Anthony Newly. His concert work has taken him all over the globe, playing and conducting for Pam Ayres, Sheila Steafel, Janie Dee and the great Late Dame Hilda Bracket. Paul is a specialist in Victorian Music Hall and he played regularly at The Players Theatre for over fifteen years.
