The objective of the campus visit was to allow the visitors to explore the College of Eastern Medicine (CEM) with a strong emphasis on the schools’ interprofessional educational system.

UCLA initiated an on-campus visit with faculty members and administrators from the UCLA Center for East-West Medicine, the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Beijing Hospital that was hosted by the Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU). A group of top-rated clinicians from Beijing were welcomed with open arms at the campus.

The objective of the campus visit was to allow the visitors to explore the College of Eastern Medicine (CEM) with a strong emphasis on the schools’ interprofessional educational system. A discussion facilitated by Jenny Yu (the Dean of the CEM) was held after a meet-and-greet session with the students, staff, faculty and president of SCU.

Yu was quoted as saying that the school is “dependent on the opportunities to learn, share ideas, and provide and receive support for like-minded healthcare partners.”

A campus tour was later conducted by Foundations and Principles Department Chair and Professor Eric Hsiao.
Zhonglong Li, an associate chief physician and associate professor of Beijing Hospital’s National Center of Gerontology, show a substantial amount of interest in learning as much as he could about the chiropractic care and the overall integrative approach to high-quality patient care. Once he learned that SCU’s approach to instruction and healthcare aligned with the same principles, he made the decision to visit the school’s campus along with several prestigious guests consisting of associate professors, associate chief physicians and a project scientist.

Zhonglong Li, MD has worked for the Department of Acupuncture and Tuina for 17 years. He earned his Bachelor’s in Acupuncture in 2001 and followed it up with an MD in both Tuina and Acupuncture nearly 7 years later in 2008 from the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. In addition to his work as an associate chief physician, Dr. Li also works as a course director with 9 research papers published within a series of Chinese core journals.
