Hemel Hempstead, Herts - Waste2 Environmental Systems Ltd (Waste2ES) hits the ground running with a revolutionary different way to deal with waste food. Whilst the technologies its systems use are well known and proven, it is the manner with which the customer benefits from their service that is the big differentiator.

Food waste has a value - an energy value - and yet many businesses across the UK are either paying to have their food waste taken away or sending it to landfill. Waste2ES has developed its service around giving that value back to the business that has created the food waste. From farmers to packing companies, from retailers to caterers, the savings to be made, and for some the potential to make money is huge.

Hertfordshire-based Waste2ES’ systems are designed to meet the food waste processing requirements across a range of business types; for example, the small footprint iD-R-250 system is perfect for restaurants, smaller retail outlets and caterers with lower levels of food waste.

For establishments with high food waste such as farms, food processors, retailers and large catering establishments, the iD-R-5K system with its add-on depackaging unit provides the perfect solution.

As Waste2ES’ Managing Director, Richard Harland explains, “In the most basic of terms our iD-R systems enable you to convert your food waste from a cost into a potential revenue opportunity via energy generation, and by the reduction of operational costs associated with disposal.”

He went on to describe the unique functionality, “The iD-R system is unique both in how it works and in terms of the residual material produced. Unlike any other food waste processing systems, our iD-Rs use aerobic and anaerobic digestion technology to unlock, release and remove the intrinsic water held in the fabric of food waste whilst consolidating the calorific content. In effect, we supercharge the dry crumb and supercharge its value.

“In essence, iD-R economically converts your food waste on-site into an odour free, stable and valuable stored energy form. There is no waste other than the saleable ‘fertiliser’ known as digestate. No added water. No sludge released to the drains. You just need a power supply.”

Sales and Marketing Director, Jacinta Hurt has been involved in the business from the outset. She outlined the win, win for their clients, “Energy conversion from the food waste comes from the integral Biomass or CHP systems in the iD-R-5K (https://waste2es.com/large-systems/id-r-5k-compactad/) to turn the gas produced from the waste processing into hot water or electricity, cooling or heating as required. These energy conversion systems are also available with the iD-R-250 (https://waste2es.com/small-systems/id-r-250/) and iD-R-500 (https://waste2es.com/small-systems/id-r-500/) where sufficient waste food stock is available. This energy can then be used by the business to reduce their costs further or even sell it back to the grid.

“For our customers, that means no more expense to have the food waste removed and lower power bills as the food waste is converted, on site, to power. Plus, there is a huge benefit to the environment as this methane-producing food waste will no longer end up in landfills. We definitely see that as a win, win.”

Waste2ES systems are initially available in the UK but the business has its sights set on markets further afield.
