Ganesha Chaturthi is a Hindu Festival which is celebrated on the birthday of Lord Ganesha. He is the god of wisdom and success. This festival is also called as Vinayaka Chaturthi and it can last up to 10 days in some parts of North India. This festival usually falls between mid of August and mid of September every year.

Lord Ganesha is also called as Vinayaka, Ganesh, Ganapathi, or the obstacle remover God.

Ganesha Chathurthi was globally celebrated on 22nd August 2020 which was a Saturday.

People had to experience a new kind of Ganesha birthday festival this year because of the ongoing restrictions due to Covid19. As many of you are aware this global pandemic has been followed since the beginning of this new year 2020.

Here in Tamil Nadu, this Hindu Festival was celebrated in a different way without any public gatherings or the big temples being kept open. Hindus worshipped Lord Ganesha at their home by offering his favorite modaks and laddus.

Government of Tamil Nadu didn't approve of the procession of Ganesha statues after 3 days hence there wasn't much of public display of different statues this year. We could usually see plenty of big Clay statues being kept in many public places and they would be taken for the procession to be immersed in the Bay of Bengal Sea after the third day of this festival. These processions and immersion of statues in the sea haven't been approved this year as a measure to reduce the impact of coronavirus.

This occasion of Ganesha Chathurthi would come on 9th September 2021 next year.

The good news we are witnessing is the number of people infected with the disease is coming down.
