Annapurna Pariwar extends a helping hand to slum families in Pune

•A few weeks ago, in Pune’s Mangalwar Peth area about 28 to 30 gas cylinders exploded which destroyed 50 odd slums located in the area. Annapurna Pariwar consoled and extended help in the form of material necessities like groceries worth Rs.1,500/ affected by this disaster to the families who were Annapurna’s members.
•Similarly, Annapurna extended helping hand to its members living in Mankhurd where close to 100 shanties were destroyed due to massive fire and subsequent explosion of 30 to 40 gas cylinders in Mankhurd, Mumbai.
In Pune’s Mangalwar Peth area recently about 28 to 30 gas cylinders exploded which destroyed 50 odd slums located in the area. The first to reach at the accident spot was Annapurna’s staff who took note of the situation. The affected families were consoled and help was extended to them in the form of material necessities like groceries worth Rs.1,500/- to each family. One loan instalment of each poor borrower was waived off in view of the accident.
While talking about this social initiative, Founder Chairperson of Annapurna Pariwar, Dr. Medha Purao Samant said, “Annapurna through its micro finance initiatives helps slum dwellers and other borrowers from poor background stand on their feet and extends a compassionate hand to these ill-fated slum dwellers.
Similarly, a massive fire had broken out in a scrap warehouse in northeast Mumbai’s Mankhurd area. The fire spread to the shanties nearby and caused explosion of 30 to 40 gas cylinders and destroyed close to a hundred shanties. Even though no human casualties were reported in the incident, the families living in these shanties were rendered homeless with nothing to hold on to. Eight fire tenders battled the blaze and brought the fire under control.
On hearing this news, Annapurna Pariwar rushed to the spot and consoled the families who had lost everything. Help was extended in the form of clothes, utensils, gas stoves and groceries worth Rs.1,650/- to each member’s family. This immediate relief extended by Annapurna would take care of their necessities for at least a month till which time the families should recover from their loss.
About Annapurna Pariwar
Annapurna extends micro loans to poor members living in slums. In addition to the above help, it has decided to waive off one loan instalment of these members due to the accident. Most of the members living in this slum include borrowers who have taken loans of Rs.50,000/-. The relief of waiver of one instalment as well as the material help of necessities rendered by Annapurna was gratefully acknowledged by the families. In almost all such cases, the affected families are left waiting for help which may or may not come.
