March 4, 2016, New Delhi: Travlekhana.com, the online service provider of e-catering for Indian railways passengers, has launched pizzas in its menu in select stations.
Details were revealed by top executives of the company in a recent press meet held in the city. They also threw light on the nature of service provided by Travelkhana to passengers.
Travelkhana is a website, which connects railway passengers with restaurants along the route of trains. As part of the arrangement, Travelkhana takes a cut on orders for meals placed with restaurants and makes available this service to passenger free of charge.
The food is delivered on time, hot and fresh to the seats of passengers. Orders can be placed in three ways: Calls to customer care, online orders at the company website and via apps on mobile phones.
All you need to do is to log into or call the site and choose from the menu as well as the station where you need the food delivered. For this, one has to furnish one’s PNR number to the company.
Travelkhana keeps track of running status of trains and provides this information to food vendors with whom they have tied up, so as to ensure timely delivery of food. Payment can be made online or through cash on delivery. For the latter, it is essential to keep change ready, so that transaction is completed as soon as possible in the limited time in which trains stops at the station of your choice.
“Gone are the days of tasteless, boring, insipid and unhygienic food. We offer a multitude of cuisines like North Indian, South Indian, Continental, Chinese, Mughlai, Italian, snacks and beverages. The care is taken that food is prepared, packaged and delivered as per your satisfaction,” said an executive.
The newest addition to the menu is Pizza. Many travellers are tired of the mundane, unexciting offering by caterers on the train. They yearn to taste something different- like pizza service offered by pizza joints in cities. “So we thought, why not infuse some energy and excitement to our menu by starting pizza delivery,” said an executive.
The best part about pizzas is that they appeal to all ages from children to elderly and are simply delicious. Pizzas add a dollop of spice to the usual fare dished out by caterers. It uses dough and exotic vegetables like capsicum, olives, ripe tomatoes, chunks of cottage cheese and choice of meats. They are all freshly prepared and packed, so they are delicious and crusty like those available in the fast food joints.
Pizzas also have another advantage: They can be enjoyed by one person or by the whole family. Depending on the size of pizza, they can serve as a snack or a full meal. For a complete meal, there is no need to order any side dishes.
