Misbah considering two spinners for Manchester

Pakistan head coach Misbah ul Haq has suggested that they could field two spinners for the opening Test. The match is set to be played at Old Trafford, Manchester from August 5 which was also where England hosted West Indies for two Tests recently.

"We've seen the ENG-WI series, it's a good thing for us. Evidence of recent series is helpful to formulate the strategy," he said before going on to elaborate on the spin angle that could come into play at Old Trafford.

Misbah said, "I think the pitch looks like the way it was against West Indies. And we saw that spinners had a role from day one in that test. We will consider [two spinners] it too. We'll take a look at the wicket today and tomorrow. Also the weather conditions and then decide. There is a definite possibility and also an encouraging sign."

Pakistan have three spinners - Yasir Shah, Shadab Khan and Kashif Bhatti - in their 20-man squad announced for the Test. Misbah believes that Pakistan have a "good chance" if they play to potential.

"It's good that there are expectations, it's good for the team's confidence also when there are encouraging signs ... dry conditions, help for spin. But that doesn't mean that you will always win. You have to play good cricket on the day. England is not easy to beat at home. But we have a good chance if the weather and conditions help," he said.

Misbah also pointed out to what the other big difference-maker could be in the series - the performances of the top order. Detailing his thoughts on it, Misbah said, "Yes it is very important. Because if you see overall the bowling line-up is strong. Our bowlers are also in good form and England too are playing with a strong bowling line-up. They even sacrificed a batsman. Their attempts seem to be to make sure they have fresh bowlers throughout the game to pick 20 wickets.

"Because the conditions are tough, their batting has also struggled. So yes to a big extent a match could be decided by who plays better in the top-order. We've seen that if you cross 300 in the first innings, then your chances of winning are almost 70%. So let's see how we go about that. We've obviously watched the Tests that have gone by now and we have an idea so we'll try to implement it."
