Daniel Sams replaces Jason Roy at Delhi Capitals

A side strain ruled Jason out of the upcoming Pakistan T20Is earlier today

Delhi Capitals have confirmed that Daniel Sams will replace Jason Roy in the squad, as reported by Cricbuzz earlier today. Roy, 30, will not be a part of IPL 2020 owing to "personal reasons," the franchise said in a press release.

Roy has also been ruled out of England's upcoming T20I series against Pakistan owing to a side strain although he'll remain with the national side in a bid to regain full fitness for the series against Australia.

Sams, the left-arm pacer, is part of the Australian squad which is currently in England and will be joining the IPL franchise after the series. Cricbuzz understands that Delhi Capitals may miss out on their Australia contingent for the first two games of the tournament.

"The IPL is a huge platform for any cricketer, and back home, we all follow the tournament extremely closely every year," said Sams, who'll be a part of his first ever IPL. "I feel fortunate to be a part of it this year, and I'm thankful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this opportunity. I can't wait to join the rest of the players in the UAE."

Roy becomes the second England player at Delhi Capitals who won't be a part of this edition. Chris Woakes had pulled out of the tournament earlier this year to stay fresh ahead of the England summer but he will not be able to make it despite IPL taking place in September. Capitals have signed Anrich Nortje in his place.

Roy may be not be a big miss at the Capitals, who have Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Alex Carey already at their disposal in the top-order. There's Ajinkya Rahane too, who's new to the franchise and open to batting in the middle order.

Sams's inclusion works to strengthen the pace pack of the Capitals. The 27-year-old plays for the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League and was the highest wicket-taker of the 2019-20 edition. He's in line to make his international debut in the upcoming series against England.
