Lincoln, NE — Crete Carrier Corporation announced today that it has been designated a 2013 Top 100 Military Friendly Employer® by G.I. Jobs. This marks the first year the company has been included in the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers® list, which was compiled from a data-driven survey sample of 5,000 companies whose annual revenues exceeded $500 million. Criteria for selection to the Top 100 list included the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, retention programs, and company policies on National Guard and Reserve service.

Now in its 10th year, the Top 100 Military Friendly Employers® list is the premier resource for transitioning service members and spouses seeking civilian employment. The survey results that determined the 2013 list were independently tested by Ernst & Young LLP based upon the weightings and methodology established by G.I. Jobs. Each year companies taking the survey are held to a higher standard than the previous year via improved methodology, criteria and weightings developed with the assistance of an Advisory Board consisting of leaders in the military recruitment community.

Crete Carrier Corporation along with its Shaffer Trucking and Hunt Transportation operations has approximately 5,700 professional drivers, office and maintenance associates and nearly 30 percent are former military. To attract and retain veterans, the company has instituted the Patriot Fleet Program, which aims to recruit military individuals to work for Crete Carrier as a Professional Driver, Office or Shop Employee. The program provides outreach and professional development opportunities for employees with military backgrounds and assists them with the transition from the military. In addition, Crete also offers internal training courses, which are designed for transitioning military veterans and assures a smooth on-boarding.

Crete has consistently been recognized as a national leader in supporting current and former members of the military and has received numerous national, state and armed service awards. This year alone, Crete Carrier Corporation was named to CivilianJobs.com’s annual Most Valuable Employers for Military list and certified as an employer partner of the Armed Forces. Crete received a Patriot Award from the Nebraska Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) for the third straight year and was presented with the inaugural Five Star Employer Support Award.

In addition to the programs, Crete has also proudly contributed to the Operation Enduring Care Program of the USO, and supports the Wounded Warrior Program.
Crete Carrier aggressively seeks to hire “military alumni” who are smart, innovative, responsible, team players and team builders, common traits for those who have worn our country’s uniform.

“We have to do everything we can to help those transitioning from the military because they have not had the chance to network while they were in the military. We can’t expect people to go away and serve in the military for many years and then come back and not have a good career. We care about that transition, and we want to do everything we can to help that service member coming back to make sure that they have an adequate job available to them,” said Duane Acklie, Chairman at Crete Carrier Corporation.

President and CEO, Tonn Ostergard, believes that veterans are an integral part of the team and can find a place to call home within the Crete Carrier family of companies.

“I’m very proud of our commitment to hiring military personnel at our family of companies. Nearly 30% of the employees in our organization have strong military backgrounds,” said Crete Carrier President and CEO, Tonn Ostergard. “Throughout our history, military veterans have been key member of our team. We value the many contributions these men and women have made in service to our country and in their service to Crete Carrier Corporation.”
