November 24, 2012 American Express will relaunch Small Business Saturday, an event designed to encourage consumers to “think small” by doing their holiday shopping with small local businesses. Since larger retail businesses typically dominate consumer purchases with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday provides a much needed boost for local businesses. This day is for everyone, from the business owners who create jobs to the customers who buy locally, and it will be promoted across the US.

“The thought was, let’s give small businesses a day of their own during the most critical time of the year,” says Scott Krugman, spokesperson for American Express. “It’s our way to support small businesses.” In 2011 over 100,000 million people came out to shop at independently-owned small businesses on Small Business Saturday, and this year’s event is predicted to have an even greater impact.

The Small Business Saturday promotion is aimed at both consumers and small businesses. While consumers are urged to patronize local businesses that Saturday, local storefront and online businesses with revenues of less than $10,000,000 annually may access free promotional resources through the Small Business Saturday website. Participants are provided with a marketing kit, personalized online ads and inspiring success stories they can use to promote their businesses, though all that is required for a small business to participate is that they keep their doors open on Saturday, November 24th.

American Express continues the trend of other corporations lending their support to small business. The Mission: Small Business program sponsored by Chase and LivingSocial helped small businesses across the US by awarding up to 12 individual $250,000 grants.

To help small wedding businesses access the tools and resources they need to get more leads and book more weddings, Book More Brides is launching the Wedding Business Acceleration Summit from November 5th until 11th. Like the Small Business Saturday program, attendees of this free, seven day online event have the opportunity to use free marketing resources for their small wedding businesses. The event will be held at http://www.bookmorebrides.com/events/?sig=87 to help wedding business owners learn more about the free and inexpensive promotional tools and resources available for their businesses.
