To Reopen the World Takes Craftsmanship

Posted May 19, 2020 by stilsonlewis

The world needs to restart and rebuild, and get into harmonious production.

The world is trying to fit itself back together. It needs to start. It stopped in a patchwork pattern, slowly at first, here and there, with populations in various degrees of lockdown, closing businesses, entertainment venues, churches, parks and stopping the assembly of individuals outside of immediate household groups, and placing varying restrictions of personal movement. This patchwork, this crazy quilt, has had towns, regions, countries moving at different speeds and in different ways. Now we are all moving more slowly, some of us have been near a dead stop. And some of us have been told we are old or at risk so often we are starting to believe it.

Now we are all trying to come back to life, to work, to play, and in trying to synchronize, we are finding it hard to mesh; our clutch is not doing its job. Then again, no one has invented an automatic transmission for this sort of thing. There is one area that all our national, state and local governments agree on in all parts of the world. They all want their citizens to be well, and living life.

The pieces of the world economy need to fit back together, as well. We need to find safety in a real way that encompasses travel, commerce and production. What will this look like, how will this assemblage come together, this quilt of all patterns and colors? How will we create a harmonious whole? And will we be wise enough to keep some slower time in this new pattern, so that the kindness and play that has surfaced will be part of our future? We are embarking on a future that can contain all that we value. We can embroider some slow time into the tapestry. And we can remember the two aspects of the golden rule, "Try not to do things to others that you would not like them to do to you." and "Try to treat others as you would wand them to treat you.", L. Ron Hubbard.
