Texas Snow and the Golden Rule 2021

Right now, if you live in Texas and have a gas stove, invite your neighbors over to cook. You will all be warmer, better fed and probably happier. What are snow days for, anyway?!

"Love thy neighbor as thyself." is easy to say. It is not always easy to do. What or who is a neighbor? " One who lives near another" is a simple deffinition. And "near-dweller" is the literal translation from Old English, according to Mashed Radish, an etymology site on the internet. Notice the idea is not exclusive of those with differing political views, or religious beliefs, or even philosophies of gardening. So perhaps we could use some instruction as to how to do this. First , one must love oneself well enough that we treat ourselves well. Otherwise, the rest of us won't want to be treated that way, anyway. After that we can widen the sphere to family, to groups, and then to the entire community. It helps to have guidelines for how to do this. Some modern code we can follow and apply because it is based on common sense. The Way To Happiness by L. Ron Hubbard is such a code. Two statements of the Golden Rule are found in this guide: "Try not to do things to others that you would not like them to do to you." and "Try to treat others the way you would want to be treated." L. Ron Hubbard. As you see, this way of behaving encompasses self-restraint as well as positive action. Right now, if you live in Texas and have a gas stove, invite your neighbors over to cook.
