Tampa Bay Hurricane Season is Here

The Atlantic Ocean is warm already along the Florida coast. Summer is here and with it the beginning of Hurricane Season. This is not new news. It is neither good news nor bad news.
It is simply a statement of what is.

There is no prevention for weather, but there is prediction. This is an area where our public media do try to help and inform. The meteorologists around the world track storms from their very first gathering, through their paths, until they disperse and cease. Sometimes we may hear about this more than we would really want, but try not to tune out. There will be preparedness guidelines and suggestions of what to do if a storm is headed your way.

These instructions will make the aftermath a little less awful if you are in the path of another Michael and the severe destruction such a storm brings. If adhered to they will certainly help sustain one through the comparatively mild destruction and inconvenience that followed Irma for most of us, even the days without electricity that many in the Tampa Bay area experienced. For instance, if you or a family member is using an electric oxygen concentrator for breathing, be sure to have a regular oxygen tank on hand in case of power failure.

The one thing that the aftermath of any hurricane will have in common is confusion. The world will not be operating in its normal patterns. In fact it may be hard to find any pattern, and all will seem a confusion. That is when to apply your most important skill: the ability to look and see. Observe the environment as it really is and have others do the same.

"What they find is usually very obvious when they see it. Then they can go and handle things." L. Ron Hubbard.

We are all praying for a very mild storm season.
