Coronavirus and New Ways to Create Competence in 2020

What is safety? Is it different for the near term than farther in the future? The actions we take now craft what our life will look like later. Right now I am thinking of schools and how we learn and what we learn.

What is safety? Is it different for the near term than farther in the future? The actions we take now craft what our life will look like later. Right now I am thinking of schools and how we learn and what we learn.
It will shape our future in distinct, bright ways, and also in subtle, more pastel ways that may be more far reaching. The decisions we make about the world as children color our lives long after we have lived far from that moment. What ideas do we want our children to carry forward as they create the future of our race? Here "race" means humankind.

First, I want the future built on a recognition of human rights as a real foundation. To the degree I know my rights I can stand up for myself and others. To the degree that they know theirs, they can stand up for mine. The best statement of this concept, and individual rights that is around right now is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Also, it would be great to have habits of lifelong learning.

Since the tight mechanism of schooling is now inapplicable, it could be a chance to have more hands-on learning, more informal encounters with science and humanity, more time to just sit and read, or climb a tree and gain the competence of one's body. We are at a crossroads where we can throw off the paradigm of factory style schooling, just as factory style working has become inappropriate in many professions. I miss my groups and my office, but I now value time differently. Perhaps we can keep a balance.

ThisCoronavirus time has forced us to take a new look at what it takes to be competent and contribute to the world around us. Whatever the future will be, our competence to create in that environment will monitor how well we succeed. "The test of true competence is the end result." L.
