Children march. They are brown and white and black in various shades. It makes a painter happy to see them, a pleasant and harmonious palette. They are all here, in Tampa Bay, but have genetic origins from every part of the globe, except perhaps this one. And in this time of tensions it is reassuring for the grown-ups to see how easy these friendships and associations can be. Color, race, genetic make-up, these are not natural barriers among humankind. "You have to be carefully taught to hate.", explains the Oscar Hammerstein song from South Pacific. What has happened to the Native American presence in our struggles as an overall people?
This Friday, in the City of Tampa, there is a march. It is a family march. It is a Black Lives Matter family march on Friday morning, starting in a waterfront park at 10;30 a.m. There will be a storytime for toddlers and children in the park before the march, which will take place on Tampa's beautiful Riverwalk. There will be snacks and drinks for everyone. If peace and unity can be used to create deep social change it will spare all of us much grief and danger in the future.
Children are the future. "Love and help children." is a simple and direct statement by modern philosopher L. Ron Hubbard. Humankind depends on it.
