With the government announcing recently that the employment rate among young persons in the UK is now at 66%, Serviceteam is doing it's bit to help young people with work based training towards an NVQ, offering them real potential for a job at the end of their placement.

"We've just taken on three new trainees and we're looking for two more." says Team Manager Alex Bacon. "It works really well for both parties. Serviceteam gets bright, enthusiastic, computer literate people into the office environment as a junior account manager and the trainees get on-the-job training, experience and time off every week to study for a vocational NVQ. Our aim is to offer all our successful trainees a full-time career with Serviceteam at the end of their course."

The courses last one year and trainees earn £600 per month. This scheme is a viable alternative to attending college or university.

Trainees are exposed to all aspects of the business from administration right through to marketing. They prepare and perform weekly presentations, organise their own diaries, visit clients for face to face meetings and attend decision making meetings where they are encouraged to participate and contribute.

Wayne Shah joined Serviceteam as a junior account manager four months ago and is studying towards an NVQ in Business Administration. "I left school last year with no idea what to do" says Wayne. "I knew I didn't want to go back into full time education but I also didn't want to work full time in a job without any career advancement, training or prospects. I decided that doing an apprenticeship was the best idea as I would earn myself an NVQ and gain useful experience alongside earning a decent wage. I'm learning things every day here and it's great to be in busy office environment – there's always something happening. Since I've started I have had no doubts that this was a good choice as some of my friends who are in education are disappointed as they don’t have the money to save for their future."

The trainees meet their assessor once every two weeks to ensure that they are learning the necessary skills to enable them to pass their NVQ.

I've only been here for a month now and I am completely settled in - not only with my job role but with my team of colleagues as well.”
