Ed (deceased) was the former president of the Barbershop Harmony Society, but much more than that he was a genius arranger for Barbershop quartets and choruses.
What is Barbershop music anyway?
The Barbershop Harmony Society stated that Barbershop music has its roots in Afro American and European traditions going back through the centuries. In certain barbershops, the barbers would entertain the customers with renditions of romantic songs. This was part of the start of the genre.

These barbershops then started to hold competitions to see who was the best and away the genre went.
