Specops Software announced today the release of their guidance for Active Directory best practices. The guide, Securing Active Directory Against Common Attacks, arrives as organizations prepare for compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Active Directory houses sensitive data for more than 90% of all organizations. It is designed with security in mind, but its possession of the crown jewels makes it an attractive target for hackers. On any given workday, users with Active Directory accounts collectively authenticate up to 10 billion times. User authentication is commonly secured through a single factor – the password. But, with 63% of confirmed data breaches involving weak, default, or stolen passwords, the guidance also urges organization to rethink existing password policies.
