National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) is one of the new schemes of government of India to promote apprenticeship. It was launched n 19th august 2016. This training program consists of basic training and job-oriented practical training at the workplace in the industry.

Apprenticeship training is measured to be one of the most powerful and effectual customs to advance skilled manpower for the country. It offers a practice-oriented, industry-led, efficient and effective mode of formal training. National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme is a training program to promote apprenticeship training in the country.

According to the scheme, the government of India will share twenty-five per cent of prescribed stipend subject to a maximum of a fifteen-hundred rupee per month per apprentice with the employers. Government of India will also share maximum seven-thousand-five-hundred per fresher apprentice (without any formal trade training) as a cost of rudimentary training with training providers.

The main objective of the NAPS scheme is to promote apprenticeship training and to increase the engagement of apprentices.

The NAPS is effective from the notification date of 19th August 2016.

Major Components of National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme:

Sharing of cost on basic training with basic training providers (BTP), up to 7,500 for months/ 500 hours.
Sharing of twenty-five per cent of the prescribed stipend, subject to a maximum of INR 1,500 per month per apprentice per month to the employers.

Why NAPS is required:
To surge the actions of apprentices from present 2.4 lakhs to 50 lakhs cumulatively by 2020.

To endorse apprenticeship training.

To incentivize employers who wish to engage apprentices.
