Dentistry is one of the complex practices and a lot depends upon the accuracy of the treatment. Even a slightest of the shift in treatment may lead to a very painful experience for the patient. Thankfully, many signs of progress have been achieved in medical and dental imaging techniques in recent time. Diagnosis through Digital imaging is now a well-established trend.

Digital Radiography is one of the most frequent types of radiological procedure. Dentists now rely heavily upon Radiography for better treatments. They often suggest an intra-oral x-ray examination to diagnose the problem. Use of Films for diagnosis purpose is not only expensive but also time-consuming.

Primarily there are three types of dental radiological procedure:

a. Intra oral Sensors

Placing the radiographic film or sensor inside the mouth produces an intraoral radiographic view. It basically generates four types of images to help proper diagnosis. It generates

Periapical View – When taken of both anterior and posterior teeth

Bitewing View – Taken to visualize the crowns of the posterior teeth and the height of the alveolar bone in relation to the cementoenamel junctions

Occlusal View – A view that reveals the skeletal or pathologic anatomy of either the floor of the mouth or the palate

Full Mouth Series – A full mouth series is a complete set of intraoral X-rays taken of patients’ teeth and adjacent hard tissue.

b. Panoramic Radiography

It is a panoramic image of the entire teeth taken from outside useful in detecting and localizing mandibular fractures and other pathologic entities of the mandible.

c. Cephalometric Radiography

It is done to study the relationships between bony and soft tissue landmarks of teeth. It helps in detecting tissue damage.

Out of all these, the frequency of panoramic radiographic examination has also witnessed an increase recently. As per an estimate, there is more than 100% increase in panoramic radiographic examinations globally. In India alone, the estimate suggests that out of every 1000 patients, around 60-70% patients are recommended Intra oral & extra oral imaging.

There are companies who manufacture different types of sensors to perform these radiographs. Vatech India is one of the fastest growing companies in the Indian dental radiology space and provides a wide variety of digital radiology devices and in-house theatre software.Their intra-oral range of products (including Ez Smart and Ez Sensor Classic is easy to use and have superior image quality making them most popular among dentists. The products have been ergonomically designed to maximize patient comfort. In addition, they can be easily connected to the mobile handheld devices. The company also has as a part of its arsenal, powerful extra oral 3D radiology devices that allow dentists to get an accurate image of the extended oral cavity along with the maxillary and mandibular areas in a single scan. All Vatech India’s radiology products come with a five years manufacturer’s warranty packed with superior onsite and online support.

Use of radiology in dentistry is fast improving with Digital Solutions. It requires regular innovation to minimize time consumption in the diagnosis and also improve the accuracy. Vatech India endeavors to ensure a smile on every patient’s face, a dream that every Dentist tries to achieve.
