Interactive 360 views on pure white backgrounds for Clothing Photography can be achieved through the use of a 360 Photography Turntable and strategically placed Product Photography Lighting Kits. This article discusses several such approaches.
Our focus is on interactive 360 images and in particular on how to capture an interactive moving image where consumers can manipulate the Clothing Photography to better understand the product, while also presenting the clothing on a pure white background. Two methodologies for using a 360 Photography Turntable are presented and the use of Product Photography Lighting Kits for pure white backgrounds is discussed at the end. Playback of interactive 360 images can be done using interactive HTML5, interactive MP4 movies, simple MP4 movies, animated GIFs or other methodologies.
First, a 360 Photography Turntable can be used to turn a model as the model stays still or moves, on the rotating platform. A static camera captures multiple images of the model, from different angles, as the 360 Photography Turntable turns around. To mimic a model walking on the runway, a treadmill-like platform on top of a 360 Photography Turntable may be employed. A drawback to this type of Clothing Photography is that the model may become disoriented as the table spins.
Second, for Clothing Photography, the dual of the first case is to have the camera rotate around the moving (or static) model. Instead of having the object turn in front of the camera, the camera turns around the object. This can be achieved by hanging a 360 Photography Turntable above the model and connecting the camera to the turntable via a counter-balanced arm. This approach minimizes the potential for disorienting spins on top of a rotating 360 Photography Turntable.
Third, to achieve pure white backgrounds, in the above two cases, it is critical that the photographed subject has minimum amounts of shadows. This can be achieved through the use of Product Photography Lighting Kits. The Photography Lighting Kits should be placed behind the object or to the left and right side, slightly behind the subject. Flooding the background of the subject with light minimizes shadows and allows image processing software to more easily remove the background and to achieve pure white backgrounds interactive 360 views.
In conclusion, interactive 360 images on pure white background, for Clothing Photography, can be achieved using a 360 Photography Turntable with the model sitting on top of the platform or the camera mounted on the platform suspended above the model and Photography Lighting Kits being placed directly behind the subject or slightly behind and to the left and right of the subject.
