The coursework includes areas of study, such as textile construction, sculpture, installation, action and craft.

The program places a strong focus on how textiles and fiber arts are produced within a modern art context, all while being supported by a discourse that is heavily rooted in modern thought. Students are able to learn a wide array of production techniques that will strengthen their knowledge base in the areas of textile construction and surface techniques. They will also have full access to studios that contain both analog and digital machinery, which will allow them to have a more comprehensive understanding of the tools that are currently used by industry professionals.

A strong emphasis is placed on the history and theory of fiber and materials as well, which will allow students to understand how politics and social movements have affected the textile industry. Students will also have the opportunity to visit the Field Museum and other educational institutions, which have exhibits focusing on various historical and ethnic textiles.
