Rodolfo Michel Declares Quitting Traditional School a Great Personal Decision

Originally Rodolfo Michel wanted to be a zoologist but found school to be unfit for him. Eventually he pursued photography after quitting school and since then has never been happier.

Photography has not always been the obvious choice for Rodolfo Michel. As a child in Guadalajara, he wanted to grow up and pursue a career in the sciences as a Zoologist. Over time, however, Rodolfo Michel realized he was not the best student and felt dispassionate about continuing such traditional education. It was then that he dropped out of school.

In 1993, Rodolfo Michel found his way back to school in Texas and began studying English. It seemed that the sciences were simply not a good fit, and Rodolfo Michel needed creative outlets in order to thrive in life. However, English did not seem to be the outlet he found solace in as he soon ended his studies and returned to Guadalajara. It was back home that Rodolfo Michel first pursued photography at U.A.G. and then continued on to the Texas Art Institute. Once again, traditional studies were not Rodolfo Michel’s match, and he soon quit because he was so unhappy.

“However, to be truly happy you must first be unhappy. I had to unfortunately learn this lesson the hard way,” said Rodolfo Michel. Thus, soon after leaving the Texas Art Institute, Rodolfo Michel began as an apprentice to a fashion photography and finally found his niche. This was what he was meant to do! Rodolfo Michel spent a majority of his time working in the darkroom and developing an understanding of the art of photography.

Since then, Rodolfo Michel has worked hard in the field he loves to earn his own solo exhibits and collaborate with some talented models to build his portfolio. While he does not encourage others to drop out of school, Rodolfo Michel does believe in each individual finding the right path that completes them in this life. Traditional schooling holds that path for some and apprenticeship is the right way for others. The true lesson, according to Rodolfo Michel, can only be learned when you know what you want out of life and pursue it aggressively!
