iTIVIA Technologies is engaged in providing healthcare support services with Medical Coding and Billing using proprietary software for US clients. iTIVIA works on the principles of quality, security and compliance. As per the law issues by the Unites States Department of Health and Human Services, it is mandatory to comply with rules that limit the use and disclosure of sensitive Patient’s Health Information ( PHI). iTIVIA Technologies is glad to announce that it is now compliant with HIPAA.

Medical records are now maintained digitally, thanks to computers and internet. Electronic exchange of medical records to health providers at the time of emergency has now become quick and convenient. However, this convenience comes with a pinch of salt in the process. Just as data can be provided to doctors and health providers, it can be shared and circulated globally. A patient’s medical history and health status is something private; he may or may not wish to share it with everybody. O the other hand, there can be misuse of this kind of confidential data. It is of utmost importance to protect the privacy of medical data and ensure that it does not fall into wrong hands. With this objective in view, a US law is designed to provide privacy standards to protect patient’s medical records and other health information provided to health plans, doctors, hospitals and other care providers. All these agencies are required to comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules.

The HIPAA Act revolves around the key factors of privacy, security and administration. Privacy refers to appropriate disclosure of individually identifiable health information. It covers all health information and not just that which is transmitted electronically. It cannot be disclosed without the patient’s consent or authorization. Only the minimum necessary information required for providing treatment and care can be passed on.

Security standards are set for all health plans and providers who must follow them at all stages of transmission and storage of healthcare information to ensure integrity and confidentiality. Security standards apply to administrative procedures, physical safeguards, security configuration management, technical services, mechanisms and electronic signatures.
Administrative simplification is part of HIPAA and aims to reform the insurance market, reduce administrative costs, and use of standardized, electronic transmission of administrative and financial data.

HIPAA rules apply to organizations that are considered HIPAA covered entity and they have to produce a contract that imposes specific safeguards on the PHI that the business associate uses or discloses. If HIPAA covered entity violates privacy rights, the patient can file a complaint with the Office of Civil Rights.

iTIVIA Technologies is now duly recognized as HIPAA covered entity and business associate. As a health related business partner, iTIVIA protects the privacy of patients by providing them an account of each entity disclosed for billing and administrative purposes, while still allowing relevant healthcare information to flow through proper channels. The patients also have a right to access their own medical records.

iTIVIA is forever striving to provide the best services to clients in every regard and works within legal norms to ensure that clients get reliable and safe services. Compliance with HIPAA is another step in this direction.
