Options for Rubber Track Tread Patterns

Posted May 27, 2016 by riotrack

Whether it’s a CTL or Mini-Excavator, knowing what type of foundation your machine will most often be working on will help you choose the right tread pattern for your project.

While there are many tread-patterns available by OEMs and aftermarket suppliers, most are designed to perform best on loose dirt & turf, gravel & rock, and finished paved surfaces. Here are some of the most common tread patterns for CTLs and Mini-Excavators and their typical terrain usages:

• SINGLE or MULTI-BAR - Typically preferred for use on loose dirt, sand, and grassy turf.

• STAGGERD BLOCK – Popular for traversing over medium gravel, rocky terrains, solid debris, and pavement.

• C-BLOCK – Provides a quieter ride during long hours on pavement while still offering enough traction for semi-loose or unstable terrain.

• CHEVRON – A sharp chevron tread is typically used in muddy terrains such as in agricultural fields where water, dirt and debris are a common mix.
