Veteran India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has revealed that he played with nine fingers all throughout his career as he lost his little finger when he was a six-year-old child. The 35-year-old further added that he tapes the little finger to make sure it remains intact when he plays as the cut finger doesn't fit inside his wicket keeping gloves.
"My finger came in the door when I was six, and it got cut," Parthiv Patel said while speaking in a new series called Cow Corner Chronicles.
"It is slightly difficult in a way because the last finger doesn't fit in the wicket-keeping gloves. So I tape it down the gloves so that it stays jointed. I don't know how it would've been if I had all the fingers, but when I look back, it feels good to represent India as a wicketkeeper with nine fingers," Parthiv further added.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has so far played 25 Tests and 38 ODIs for India and was part of India's playing XI in Johannesburg Test win on the 2017-18 tour to South Africa as well which was his last international appearance. Moreover, he was a part of India's Test squad during their historic series win in Australia in 2018-19 but he didn't play a single Test in that series.
He is one of the familiar faces in the circuit of Indian Premier League. He started with Chennai Super Kings and used to open with former Australia player Matthew Hayden. Apart from that, he was a part of Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Deccan Chargers too. In 2013, he was picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad and the next year for Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 2015, he went to Mumbai Indians and used to open the games for them as well. In 2018, he again returned to Bangalore and since then, he has been playing for them.
