City, State: Metrologic SP5500 used to be the pillar for the Physical Inventory Count. It has recently discontinued by the manufacturer. CipherLab 8000 could be an optional scanner but it’s internal firmware was supposed to be updated shortly. It is likely possibility that it might or might not work with Point of Sale -POS system.
Where to find a Physical Inventory Scanner that can work?
There isn’t an alternative at the moment which can be recommended. We have following choices:
Try to find few of the left Metrologic SP 5500 Optimus S models in the market.
Buy a used one that is still in working condition.
If buying a used CipherLab model, ensure it could work with Point of Sale – POS.
Get a rented device from any reseller.
What is the solution?
A manual count can be done– if the store is smaller, it is a good idea and not difficult at the same time.
Use a standard barcode scanner to scan products to do a count, but you have to be careful as it generally requires either a Bluetooth Scanner or a laptop or tablet which is windows based and has an USB port.
