A lot of things get stuck in our heads and try as we might, we can’t get rid of them. “Why do you want to work with is?” is that worm which is stuck in every interviewer’s mental space. This is one professional question which, try as you might, you can not budge past. However, once you are done reading this rescue article, you will be well armed to answer this question in any interview.

Why this question?
Interview after interview, you notice that this question reoccurs as no other analytical question does. Why is this question important at all, you think? Of course, employers know that a salary is what you will work for, but they assume that any worthy candidate would have the option of at least one other offer. They want to know your motivations for choosing, beyond the financial ones. There are at least three things employers wish to know and are discussed next.

How to answer?
To know what we are required to answer, we must know what the employer wishes to know from us. What exactly does a candidate need to explain to convince the interviewer to hire him or her? Here are the three components which combine to form the best answer. Remember them like your alphabets.

● You know about the company
A part of the reason why interviewers ask this question is that they want to test if you have researched about the company. It is important that you know what you are signing up for and an answer which reflects your knowledge is a convincing answer.Qreous mentions how you got to know about the company and who recommended it to you. Describe what you know about the company and why the recommendation was valuable to you.
● Your beliefs are in sync with the company’s vision
The second reason why this is a favorite with the interviewers is that they want to know what you think about the kind of work you will be doing if you are selected. By thoroughly reading up everything you can find about the firm online, understand what their vision is. When you are asked this question, do mention what you know. Tell the interviewer about the major projects taken up by the firm which interest you and wish you were a part of. Convince them you have the same idea of growth as they do. This part of the answer goes a long way in convincing the employer that you are serious about the company and the opportunity enough to be following activities related to the firm.
● You will add value to the firm
The third reason for this being an important question is that the employers expect an answer which assures them that you will quickly settle in your new environment and participate in value-addition tasks. Explain exactly what it is that you find exciting about joining the place. The free culture which allows employees to take up clients of their choice, a different professional approach from others in the field, the fast-paced environment which stimulates on-foot thinking, etc. are some responses.

Here are two examples of great answers to the above-mentioned question.
Suppose you are a software developer applying for the post of Assistant IT in a firm. Here is one way to answer the “Why do you want to work here?” question:
I found this firm listed on Time of India’s list of up and coming software developers and when I came to know that there are vacancies, I couldn’t believe my luck. I’ve read a number of reviews and customer feedback, and it is amazing how much has been achieved in such a short time. I would feel grateful to be a part of the team and learn new skills as Assistant IT as the firm grows further. This is a good answer as it shows your research, compliments the team for their visible efforts and tells the employer where exactly you place yourself within the company.
Here is another example. Suppose you are a content writer looking for a job in a reputed media company and are asked this question. Here is a simple answer.
A friend who works in the management department of your firm recommended this place to me. Listening to her feedback about the free culture and accommodating environment, I had to apply. The acceptance of team learning and continuing education, and acknowledgment of hard work the company practices are strong motivators.
Such is a convincing answer as it aims for two stones. It already establishes your link within the company telling the interviewer that you will be happy in their environment. It also explains in detail what interests you, showing you have given serious thought to the application.
There is no one answers which can guarantee success every time, but if you keep these three components in mind and are genuine in your response, you are sure to impress.
