There are many men who would love to be drafted into the Chicago White Sox organization during the draft, but very few can say that it ever happened to them. John Herrholz is one of the few. After pitching nearly his whole life, John Herrholz can finally say that his dream came true. John Herrholz was picked to join one of the great organizations in Major League Baseball. “It was my proudest day,” John Herrholz admitted after the draft. Many would agree that it is definitely an accomplishment to be proud of achieving.

When asked about the year leading up to his signing with the White Sox, John Herrholz says, “It took lots of dedication and sacrifice to get to this point.” How true that is for John Herrholz. John Herrholz started playing the game as a young child in Florida. John Herrholz attended many summer camps dedicated to baseball and played in little league every year as well. John Herrholz credits his family for supporting him and putting up with his obvious fascination with the sport he holds so dear. “I must have been trying for my parents. All I talked about, all I read and thought about was this great sport,” John Herrholz is quoted as saying.

John Herrholz played ball all through high school, and he even would look for teams to join in the off-season from school. “My concentration was always on the game,” John Herrholz says. In May of 1987, John Herrholz signed an athletic scholarship with Miami Dade North Community College to play baseball for their team. Next, in May 1989, John Herrholz received a scholarship to the University of New Orléans to pitch for their team. And then finally, in the 1991 Major League Baseball draft, John Herrholz was signed to a Major League Baseball Organization.

John Herrholz does say that while he was excited to have this chance in the majors, he also knew that this meant more practice and a stringent routine. John Herrholz needed to make sure that his abilities are up to par with the other athletes in the professional baseball league.
