Jerome Abrams was honored and humbled when he was notified that he was voted Kent County’s 2nd Best Physician. The vote came after he celebrated 30 years as a physician.

Kent County’s Jerome Abrams has had much to celebrate in the past thirty years. He is a highly respected doctor knowledgeable in his field of work and the needs of his patients. His competence and compassion were rewarded in early 2014, when he was voted the 2nd best physician in Kent County in the First State Favorites 2014 edition of the Dover Post, appearing in May.

The private practice doctor was honored by the vote and encouraged. “I’ve been a physician now for over thirty years. That is a long time to practice medicine, and I’ve seen patients in all stages of life. To know my work is appreciated enough to be voted as one of the county’s best physicians is very rewarding,” says Jerome Abrams.

For some of Jerome Abrams’ patients, it is not much of a surprise. Jerome Abrams spends a lot of energy getting to know his patients. Medical professionals around the country are pressed for time and spend only a few minutes discussing health with their patients. What makes Jerome Abrams stand out is his ability to discuss more than health and symptoms. He has spent his career trying to understand his patients and how their health mirrored their lifestyle, placement in family, relationships, and stage in life.

“I wanted patients to understand that as a physician, I cared about them and not just treating their symptoms. I try to convey this by discussing health habits and plans for maintaining or improving health. I want patients to know there is always room for a dialogue and not feel intimidated when discussing their health,” says Jerome Abrams.

Being voted as 2nd best physician in the county validated Jerome Abrams’ efforts to take a more compassionate and personal approach to healthcare. Patients trust his guidance and come to him with health concerns. His opinions and insights are respected and trusted by his patients. Understanding the medical history of patients and their lifestyle enables Jerome Abrams to develop a plan for treatment he knows they will follow. “Treatments only work when patients take seriously what their doctor tells them. If there is no faith or trust between a doctor and patient, then a patient is more apt to dismiss what their doctor tells them,” says Jerome Abrams.
