Roland Luce’s snowboarding career may lack medals, but it also lacks injuries.

Roland Luce grew up right around the time when snowboarding started to rise in popularity, which gave him a head start in what is now one of the most popular snow sports in the world. He grew connected with the sport immediately; and by the time he was in high school he already had a network of fellow riders that he carpooled to the mountains with on a daily basis. As a lifelong resident of Golden, CO, he has ample access to some of the most world-renown snowboarding destinations on the planet. It was a benefit that he learned to take full advantage of throughout his life.

Now, over 25 years after the first time Roland Luce ever strapped into a board, it is needless to say that he has become a seasoned rider. With statistics that reach the millions in vertical feet ridden, he made sure to get the most out of his seasons as well. And while he may not have any competition medals to show off his snowboarding career, he does have a reputation among his group that carries similar bragging rights: of his 25 seasons of riding, he has never broken a bone. And given the fact that he likes to do tricks in the terrain park as well as shred the backcountry, his immunity to injury surely is something that sets him apart from others on the mountain.

Snowboarding is considered an extreme sport for many reasons, all of which pertain to the extreme state of mind. Snowboarders have to learn to manage a number of chaotic conditions, whether they be provided by nature in the form of storm conditions, avalanches or more; or they can be man-made, such as terrain park features of even a rider’s own choice to try a dangerous trick or to ride at very fast speeds. And while his best ramp trick might be an indie 360 and his best rail trick might be a front side lip slide, those are still two very impressive feats considering he has mastered those tricks without causing any notable injuries to himself. Roland Luce ’s ability to do these ticks and remain unscathed is something to be envied by all snowboarders, including the professionals.
