Maya Bloom speaks out about the importance of community service and how to get involved.

Community service is extremely important to Maya Bloom and she hopes to inspire others to make a difference in their own communities. Maya Bloom is a 13-year member of the Girl Scouts and was a recipient of their distinguished Gold Award for one of her service projects. For this project, Maya Bloom spent 333 hours, over the course of a year, constructing a plan to get students outside.

Maya Bloom spoke out about her time serving with Girl Scouts. “I was honored to receive the Girl Scout Gold Award,” she said, “I worked tirelessly on my project, and was extremely passionate about its purpose. The feedback I have received has been amazing and I am extremely thankful for the recognition.”

In addition, Maya Bloom talked about her time with Outward Bound and how it changed her life: “My Outward Bound experience was amazing. I spent 22 days with a group of individuals and we became very close in the process. We were called ‘The Litter.’ It really helped me work in a team setting and see the difference only a few people can make. The people on the island were so thankful and that meant the world to me. During our time there, we also learned to sail, we slept on crossed oars under a tarp, and we even took a morning dip in the Atlantic. It was an unforgettable experience.”

Maya Bloom has been involved in countless other volunteering endeavors as well, including collecting backpacks and school supplies for children affected by Hurricane Katrina with her Girl Scout troop and creating a virtual hike video in the White Mountains for the disabled. Maya Bloom was also the top money earner in Civil Air Patrol to collect the funds needed to place Christmas wreaths on the graves of all in the Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.

Maya Bloom hopes that more people will be inspired by her work in the community and will begin to serve on their own. “Service is amazing and life changing. I learned to work with others on a team and, in the process, I became selfless. What you can learn from serving in your community is priceless. I hope everyone has an experience similar to mine.”
