Former police officer Laura Motes has finished her prerequisites and has applied to the local nursing school.

After a successful twenty-one-year career as a police officer with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, Laura Motes left her position as a Sergeant to pursue a passion for nursing. She went back to school to fulfill any prerequisite courses she was missing, and has applied to the Augusta University College of Nursing. She is hoping to be accepted and start attendance in the fall semester of 2016.

There are many different reasons why a nursing career is a great choice for caring people like Laura Motes. Not only are nurses in great demand, they make higher wages than many other professions with schedules that tend to be more flexible. These, however, are not the main reasons why Motes wants to become a nurse. Her genuine desire to care for and impact patient's lives is her driving force. Laura Motes is a proud member of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

As a nurse, she will be able to work in a number of different environments and establishments. She will eventually have the choice of places like hospitals and doctor's offices, schools, government agencies, and even home care facilities. Each of these locations will offer a variety of tasks and exciting occurrences, no two days will ever be the same. This is truly an exciting prospect for Motes who has become accustomed to a career that is full of the unexpected.

Nursing is an incredibly movable career, it can happen just about anywhere. Even within a hospital setting, nurses have the chance to move between different departments, until they find the one that suits them the best. While a nurse is finding which specialty or area fits her personality and natural skills the most, she is gaining invaluable medical experience along the way.

For Laura Motes, the interactions she will have with patients is very important to her. She spent many years having to bring Georgia's citizens into the Emergency Room, and then was forced to step aside so the doctors and nurses could take over. Soon, she will be the one who gets to nurse Georgians back to health. Being able to provide this type of service will be very fulfilling to Motes, who lives to help others.
