Jeannie Suzanna Pate knows that many countries are not equipped to provide quality medical care to their citizens and hopes to make a difference by joining the Peace Corps and offering medical assistance. The Peace Corps began in 1960 when Senator John F. Kennedy encouraged students from the University of Michigan to serve their country. Senator Kennedy knew that people like Jeannie Suzanna Pate would heed the call well into the future to go out and work in developing countries. From that inspirational speech, an agency of the federal government became devoted to world peace and friendship.

We caught up with Jeannie Suzanna Pate recently and spoke with her about her upcoming service. “I am so happy to be fulfilling my dream of joining the Peace Corps. With the support of my loving husband I hope to be able to assist people around the world. I know that there is a lack of medical professionals in many parts of the world, and I am honored to be able to use my nursing skills to provide medical service all over the globe.”
The Peace Corps is always in need of medical professionals like Jeannie Suzanna Pate. When she was a child in Eugene, Oregon, Jeannie Suzanna Pate was taught the importance of helping others by her family. During high school, Jeannie Suzanna Pate often volunteered in nursing homes and animal shelters. This deep compassion for others led her to study nursing and become a pediatric nurse.

After returning from the Peace Corps, Jeannie Suzanna Pate hopes to continue her education and become a nurse educator. Providing health education is one goal of the Peace Corps that Jeannie Suzanna Pate hopes to be a part of in addition to helping stabilize impoverished communities through offering medical services and resources.

Since she was in high school, Jeannie Suzanna Pate has wanted to join the Peace Corps. Jeannie Suzanna Pate was brought up in a family that put great emphasis on helping others and this is evident in the career of pediatric nursing that Jeannie Suzanna Pate has chosen and her decision to join the Peace Corps.
