Eric Gilbert of Deerfield, IL is a passionate writer, which inspired him to write and become an editor for the student newspaper, The Argus. Eric Gilbert is also an athlete. He played sports throughout his life and loves the competitiveness of baseball, basketball and especially soccer. He is a leader by example on the soccer field and in the classroom. He was a four-year starter and Captain of his high school soccer team; it was this foundation that led to his commitment to compete at the college level.

Eric Gilbert of Deerfield, IL is also an advocate for peace, equality, and change. He is not only a leader on the soccer field, but in his community as well. In the spring of 2014, he founded a two-on two-basketball tournament at Illinois Wesleyan University, whose proceeds were donated to The Leukemia Foundation for Leukemia research.

Eric Gilbert of Deerfield, IL learned the importance of self-advocacy from a young age. He employs this practice on a regular basis whether in the classroom, on the soccer field or within his community. He currently holds a 3.3 grade point average and is on track to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree in the spring of 2016 in Business, with a Marketing emphasis and English minor. He is a two-year starter for the Illinois Wesleyan University soccer team and was chosen for the All Tournament Team in the Clash of the Titans tournament.

For Eric Gilbert of Deerfield, IL, sports are very important. His drive to excel reaches from the classroom to the soccer field. He was honored as the “Newcomer of the Year” his achievements during the 2013 soccer season at Illinois Wesleyan University. In addition, Eric Gilbert pursues his passion for sports off the field as the Sports Editor for IWU’s student newspaper, The Argus.
